Martin Firrell
I first came across Martin Firell's work during my MA research. Using projection in public environments, he works in the same medium as other artists such as Jenny Holzer. In my perspective Frirell's work stands from a very important point of view as cultural activist wishing to promote positive social change, raising questions about the politics of aging, individual liberty, the right to personal idiosyncrasy, cultural diversity, faith, climate change, masculinity, hero worship, and fair and truthful government. Some of his work was seen on the walls of National Gallery, Houses of Parliament, the Royal Opera House, Tate Britain and St Paul's Cathedral. The latest installation challenges the concept of heroism on the walls of The Guards Chapel, spiritual home of the Household Division of the British Army.
Some of my favorite..
